What would you like to have for lunch?
What would you like to drink?
What kind of vegetables do you have?
What would you like to order?
We have apples, strawberry, and oranges.
What is the finest restaurant in this town?
Let’s eat in a fine restaurant.
Please give more coffee.
Are you ready for the main course?
Would you please pass that sugar?
Would you please give another cup of coffee?
That restaurant serves delicious seafood.
What would you like to drink?
I’d like a glass of lemon tea, please.
I’d like some ice cream and cake.
We invited some friends out to dinner.
Wine was served with the steaks.
A bowl of fresh fruit is served.
We had chocolate ice cream for dessert.
Would you like fruit for dessert?
Let’s eat out in a fine restaurant.
Let’s go home now.
May I help you?
Do you want a cup of coffee?
Please give me the bill.
Please give the bill please.
I want the steak very well done.
This is the most delicious chicken stick I’ve ever eaten.
I’m on a diet because I want to lose weight.
I’m really hungry. I want a big portion.
I want a complete dinner: fried chicken with green beans, mashed potatoes, and ice cream for dessert.

Do you still remember me?
I don’t quite agree with you.
I don’t think I have the same perspective as you.
I don’t think you have working ideas.
I don’t think I know about how to solve that problems.

You know the world of English is a fun and exiting place to be.
I’m so glad you could join me for another lesson.
Hi everybody, this is Misterduncan in England.
How are you today?
Are you OK? I hope so!
Are you happy? I hope so!
I talked about saying “please” and “thank you”.
Today we will look at the different ways of replying to these sentences.
Making your response.

When a person asks you a question you will normally give a reply.
A sentence with the word “please” in it, normally needs a response.
The reply can be either yes, no, or maybe.
They could also be much longer sentences including a reason for the reply or an added condition.

“Please can I watch some TV?”
“Yes, but only for an hour.”
“Please can I watch some TV?”
“No, you cannot, you have to do your homework.”
“Please can I watch some TV?”
“May be after dinner you can.”

“Can I please go out to play with my friend?”
“Yes you can …”
“Can I please go out to play with my friend?”
“No you cannot, it is too late.”
“Can I please go out to play with my friend?”
“Maybe, after you have done your chores.”

“Please may I leave the room?”
“You may.”
“Can I please go out to play with my friend?”
“No, sorry you may not.”
“Can I please go out to play with my friend?”
“Maybe after you have finished eating your food.”

“Could I please have some ice cream?”
“Yes you can, but not too much.”
“Could I please have some ice cream?”
“No you can’t, you’ve had some already today.”
“Could I please have some ice cream?”
“Maybe later, if you are good.”
“Could I please have some ice cream?”

Of course you can just reply with a simple “Yes”, “No”.

But if you do say “no”, then the other person will probably ask …”why not?”

Saying “no” to someone can be a very difficult thing to do.

There are many different ways of responding to a requent, which we will be taking a cloner look at in a later lesson.

Replying to “thank you”.
After you have said “thank you”, the other person may offer you a response.

“Thank you very much for the meal.”
“It’s my pleasure.”
“Thanks a lot for letting me stay with you.”
“You are very welcome.”
“Thank you for the special award.”
“You deserve it.”
“That was a great meal … cheers!”
“It’s quite alright.”
“I appreciate your kindness … thank you so much.”
“The pleasure is all mine.”
“Oh thank you for the lovely birthday present, it must have been expensive … oh you should’t have.”
“That’s OK … You are worth it!”

Saying “please” and “thank you” are very simple actions, and by using them, you are showing that you are a polite person who is willing to show respect to other people, which … is quite a nice thing really.

Well another lesson has … flown by.
Please come back real soon for another one.
I would like to say a special “hello”, to one of my online English students, Diego, and also a big “hello” to his family watching in Canicatti, which is in Sicily.
That is definitely it from me, until next time, this is Misterduncan in England, saying … thank you for watching me, teaching you … and of course …ta-ta for now.

English Video Lesson 3 Mr. Duncan
You know the world of English is a fun and exiting place to be.
We’re so glad you could join us for another lesson.

LEARNING ENGLISH WITH MR. DUNCAN

Hi everybody … this is Misteduncan in England!
How are you today? Are you OK? I hope so!
Are you happy? I hope so!
In this lesson we will look at two actions which many of us do although maybe not as often as we should.
Today we will talk about sayang … ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’.

SAYING PLEASE

we usually say ‘please’ when asking for something,
or as a polite (nice) way of saying yes to an offer:

‘Please can I watch some TV?’
‘Can I please go out to play?’
‘May I please leave the room?’
‘Could I please have some ice-cream.’
‘Would you like some ice-cream?’
‘Oh, yes please!’
‘Do you want something to eat?’
‘Yes, I would please!’
‘Oh please, that would be great!’

The word please can be used to show satisfaction and pleasure.

‘I’m pleased with my new house.’
‘This job pleases me.’
‘Your music gives me pleasure.’
‘I’m very pleased to meet you.’

From those few examples you can see that
‘please’ and ‘pleasure’ are closely related in origin
but are sometimes used in completely different ways.
If something makes you pleased,
you can say that you feel …

	uplifted
perked
chuffed
gladden
overjoyed
over the moon

SAYING THANK YOU

The action of saying ‘thank you’
or as a way of acknowledging an act of kindness.
We say ‘thank you’ to show our appreciation.
By saying ‘thank you’,

	You … show your gratitude
You express your appreciation.
You acknowledge the kindness.
You return the generosity verbally.
You offer your sincerest thanks.
You are grateful.

There are many ways to say ‘thank you’ …

	‘Thank you.’
‘Thank you very much.’
‘Thanks a lot’
‘Thank you so much.’
‘Thanks a bundle’
‘You are too kind.’
‘Thanks ever such a lot.’
‘Cheers’
‘Ta very much!’

Sometimes we may express surprise and joy,
as well as showing our thanks.

	‘Wow! how kind …’
‘Thank you!’
‘That’s good of you …’
‘Cheers’
‘I don’t know what to say …’
‘Thanks a lot!’
‘I’m overwhelmed …’
‘Thank you so much!’
‘What can I say?’
‘You are the best!’
‘Thank you very much!’
‘You are the best!’
‘This present is so nice!’
‘Oh you shouldn’t have.’

Oh dear …
I appear to be in the wrong lesson
mmm, how embarrassing …
I suppose I had better go.

Saying ‘thank you is the best way
to show your gratitude to another person.
It is a polite thing to do.
To acknowledge someone’s kindness is a nice thing to do.
And don’t forget …
… kindness creates more kindness.
I hope.

Well that is all from me today.
May I offer you my sincerest thanks.
for watching me, teaching you.
This is Misterduncan in England saying …
Ta-ta for now.

Hi John, have you got your jobs done?

Yes I have.

Well done! You’ve succeed in the first level. When you’ve finished the first level, it would be easier for you to get the next level job done!

Thank you. I think I’m ready for the next level. They are exiting jobs.

The next level would be more difficult, but through persistence, determination, courage and mindfulness, you can get them done successfully. I believe the next level would be more exiting.

Yes, sure it would. I will get them done in a better way because I’ve learned many valuable lessons whet I get the first level jobs done. It’s a kind of projects that help me to grow. They are inspiring projects to work with.

Sure they are. You are actually growing and becoming a better person when you get the jobs done! You are disciplining yourself to ensure that you go to the next level. The better you are in getting the jobs done, the more successful you are!

Yes, discipline is the key to great success.

BE EFFECTIVE IN YOUR APPROACH.

I have been working hard. But success seems very difficult. I wonder what’s wrong?

Probably you’ve been trying to hard. You need to relax a bit and take a better perspective about what you are trying to accomplish.

Fresh and workable ideas are what I need to turn my life around.

That’s right; you need to find some fresh ideas and experiment with them, and see what the results will be like.

Yes, by doing the same things I will keep on reaping the same results. I must do something different! It’s not about doing the same things differently. It’s about doing different things to reap new results.

You’ve got the idea. Now what you need to do is to start doing something different. You can turn your life around by doing something new, really new. Remember, new results can be reap by doing new actions. You must have the courage to experiment!

You’ve given me the breakthrough ideas! Thank you so much.
